SOCIAL MEDIA ASSOCIATE (1 POSITION) – KENYA, UGANDA & RWANDA

1. Background

Kilimo Trust (KT) is an independent Regional agricultural development organization working on agriculture for development across the EAC Region. It is registered in the Republic of Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda, and it implements projects across all EAC Partner States. The core business of KT is to structure national and regional trade in agricultural products for enhanced wealth, food, and nutrition security for smallholder farmers and other Value Chain actors.

Kilimo Trust is seeking a creative and digitally savvy Social Media Associate to support its communications and digital engagement work. The role is ideal for someone passionate about storytelling, content creation, and growing engaged online communities around agriculture and development.

This role supports Kilimo Trust’s efforts to showcase impact by bringing to life stories and results from programs that contribute to job creation, value chain and market development, and climate resilience among farmers and agribusiness actors.

2. Objective of the Assignment:

The primary objective of this assignment is to develop, implement, and manage the organization’s social media presence across relevant platforms to enhance brand visibility, engage target audiences, and support strategic communications. The Social Media Associate will be responsible for content creation, scheduling, monitoring performance metrics, and ensuring that messaging aligns with the organization’s goals and values.

3. Scope of work

The Social Media Associate will be responsible for:

  • Create compelling digital content that communicates Kilimo Trust’s impact across the region through visual, video, and human-centered storytelling.
  • Manage and maintain Kilimo Trust’s social media platforms to ensure a consistent and pro-fessional digital presence.
  • Work with field teams to translate program activities into accurate, respectful, and consented stories.
  • Support online audience engagement and relationship-building across platforms.
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of digital campaigns aligned with program priorities and key moments during the year.
  • Ensure all content reflects Kilimo Trust’s brand voice, tone, and visual identity standards.
  • Track content performance and contribute to digital analytics and reporting.

4. Qualifications and Experience:

  • At least a Diploma in Communications, Journalism, Media, Marketing, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years’ experience managing social media for an organization, brand, or project.
  • Strong storytelling and writing skills for digital audiences.
  • Proven experience using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, or similar tools.
  • Basic photography and videography skills, including shooting and editing content for online use.
  • Solid understanding of social media analytics and performance tracking tools.
  • Experience in agriculture or development communications is an added advantage.
  • Experience working with influencers, brand ambassadors, or partners to support cam-paigns is a plus.
  • Creative, proactive, well-organized, and detail oriented.
  • Ability to work effectively with multicultural teams and stakeholders across East Africa.

5. Duty Station:

The position will be based in one of the following locations, subject to programmatic needs and operational priorities:

a) Kenya

b) Uganda

c) Rwanda
