Reports to: Canal / Irrigation Engineer; functional coordination with Materials/Geotechnical Consultant
Supervises / Interfaces: Laboratory assistants if provided
Role objective: Deliver the assigned function with clear accountability, auditable records and timely escalation of risks.

Job Summary: Operates the Client mini-laboratory and performs routine soil, aggregate and concrete quality-control tests. Duties include moisture, Proctor, field-density, grading, Atterberg, slump and concrete cube preparation/curing, sample traceability, calibration records, laboratory registers, sample storage and coordination of external testing.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate and maintain the Client mini-laboratory and implement the approved testing schedule.
• Receive, label, register, store and prepare samples with full chainage/lot/structure traceability.
• Conduct routine moisture, field density, Proctor, grading and Atterberg tests within available equipment capability.
• Conduct concrete slump tests and prepare, label, cure and dispatch cube specimens.
• Maintain curing conditions and cube/sample registers.
• Check test equipment condition and maintain calibration/certification records.
• Record test results promptly and flag failures or anomalous results before affected work proceeds.
• Maintain daily laboratory register and summary of tests passed, failed, pending and repeated.
• Prepare samples and chain-of-custody documentation for accredited external laboratories.
• Maintain laboratory cleanliness, storage, consumables and equipment security.
• Support Consultant audits and independent verification sampling without altering original records.

Minimum qualifications: Diploma in Civil Engineering, Materials or Laboratory Technology; minimum 5 years’ relevant experience.

Key deliverables: Laboratory test register; Earthworks test reports; concrete test/cube register; calibration register; sample register; test reports; failed-test notifications.

Indicative performance indicators:

• Testing completed within specified frequency
• Traceability of every result
• Calibration compliance
• Timely reporting of failures
• Repeat-test/rework trend

Authority and escalation: The officer shall act within approved drawings, specifications, method statements, ITPs and delegated authority. Any safety-critical condition, major non-conformance, design conflict, material deviation, abnormal ground condition or issue with material cost/programme impact shall be escalated promptly through the defined project chain of command.
