About the role:
- To evolve and drive UBL sites asset care strategy with a view to continuously improving equipment reliability, performance, availability and maintenance cost efficiency.
- To provide asset care leadership in UBL sites by ensuring asset care excellence, providing specialist asset care advice, driving World class Asset care Ways of Working, and driving asset care capability development for sustainability.
- To evolve UBL site Capex plans and drive their full implementation

- UBL continues to undergo major changes in its asset care policy through adoption of diverse asset care standard methodologies intended to deliver maximum value at lowest
- Asset care is now seen as the responsibility of everyone in the organization and viewed as a profit centre rather than a cost centre. The role is tasked with setting a dynamic asset care strategic direction developed to involve and apply diverse strategic pillars to deliver sustainability in performance targets.
- The role therefore calls for solidness in engineering functional skills, understanding & applying world changes in asset care principles and innovativeness in standard processes. The role also calls for strong business mindset in managing the huge resources’ available to this responsibility
- Further, the role also offers stewardship in Capex management for UBL site. Strong understanding of the site investment strategic direction in order to define the gaps and needs is a key result. Driving Integrity & standards in Capex projects implementation is another key result.
Role Responsibilities:
- This position works within the senior management team within UBL and IDU business. The role has direct reports, comprising of Capex managers and asset care managers. The role has strong working relationship with all Tusker heads of departments, inventory management. finance and procurement leadership. This role is the key link with Diageo Engineering Excellence team for the Tusker site
Top Accountabilities
- Roll out of UBL site asset care strategic plans & drive their full implementation
- Continual review and alignment of asset care strategy
- Prudence in Budgeting and Budget management for asset care, Utilities and CAPEX
- Delivery of asset care important metrics
- Dynamic Maintenance planning guidelines for attainment of target plant availability, reliability and asset life cycle.
- Monitor equipment life-cycle costs and advise appropriate on modifications, upgrading or replacement.
- Driving efficiency in maintenance spares inventory management
- Capability reviews of Senior engineer and facilitation of training requirements
- UBL Capex origination, development, approval and implementation
- Support in formulation of strategic capital development objectives and plans including three-year plans and Capex AOP in line with the overall company objectives.
- Implement projects within applicable company processes from project design and costing, justification for approval to, specifications for tendering by procurement department, technical evaluation of the tenders and eventual supervision of contractors and consultants during the relevant stages in the life of the project.
- Ensure Implementation of Food safety, Quality, Environment and Safety Management Systems according to FSSC 22000, ISO 9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001 requirements respectively.
Experience / skills required:
Qualifications:
- University degree or equivalent experience in Engineering fields of Mechanical, Chemical, Production, Electrical or Electronics.
- Registration status at corporate level by Engineers Registration Board or equivalent statutory body and corporate membership of the Institution of Engineers of Uganda or equivalent professional body.
Experience:
- 8 years first line management experience
- 5 years’ experience in plant maintenance management.
- Proven planning and leadership record
- Know and understand fully, plant operational and maintenance requirements
- Project management skills
- Strong business mind set
- Strong leadership skill
- Adaptability to changes
