Community Safety & Health Officer- Rescue For Hunger

Job Overview

The CSHO will be responsible for supervising and supporting CHWs in providing health education, working with the community in arranging place/site visits. He/she will support Rescue for Hunger CHWs on the timely treatment of children for diseases such as pneumonia and diarrhea, The CSHO will be responsible for sensitizing the communities and supporting them to identify main health problems and helping them on how to address those health problems.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • To do risk assessments and audits, checking that machinery and equipment are safe and that management systems and working methods meet current legal standards
  • Working with managers, employees and trade unions to make policies and take action to encourage
  • Identify and report immediately to the Community Health Project Coordinator any problem that may interfere in achieving program objectives
  • Data collection, insertion, data processing analysis and develop a report.
  • Detail the achievements and share the lessons via conducting a regular monthly meeting with the team, CHWs, and community committee members to discuss all related issues
  • Develop a monthly plan and discuss with the team the required activities that need to be implemented
  • Conduct a regular supervision visit to supervise and evaluate the field activities and provide regular feedback to community health volunteers in a constructive way and accurately address the training gaps during encouraging supervision visits
  • Assist in the training needs, coordinate training sessions and community meetings.
  • Explaining regulations in areas such as occupational health; noise, dust and fumes; fire safety and moving and storing dangerous materials, and making sure that everyone follows them
  • Working with managers, employees and trade unions to make policies and take action to encourage
  • Conduct weekly supervisor meetings with CHCs
  • Perform other tasks as may be assigned by Supervisor.
  • S/He will ensure integration of protection and gender throughout project implementation. This includes the introduction of mechanisms to enable women to participate in decision making around public health issues.
  • S/He will carry out any other relevant tasks assigned by line manager within the scope of program implementation plan.
  • Running training courses to encourage and promote safe working practices

Qualifications

  • University degree or higher in Community Health, nursing, medical background, public health programes, agribusiness, program management, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in NGOs, OPDs, or development programs, preferably in Community Health Programs.
  • Experience with adult learning/participatory training methodologies.
  • Practical understanding of barriers faced by persons with disabilities in accessing opportunities in agricultural value chains and solutions to overcome them.
  • Proven experience as a trainer, facilitator, or mentor in capacity-building workshops.
  • Excellent interpersonal, networking, and communication skills.

Skills Needed

  • Leadership and good interpersonal skills including the ability to listen; negotiation skills at different levels; flexible and adaptable to work under unstable environments and under pressure with limited support.
  • Capacity Building skills
  • Good computer skills (Microsoft Office).

Strong problem-solving skills and analytical skills.

  • Flexible and willing to work additional hours to ensure that the required results are delivered.
  • High level of reliability, objectivity and honesty.
  • Willingness to work in Somalia environment in unsocial hours and harsh conditions.
