Lycamobile is seeking a skilled and proactive and experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to manage, maintain, secure, and optimize the organization’s database systems. The successful candidate will oversee MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Microsoft SQL Server databases, ensuring high availability, reliability, security, and optimal performance and will report to the Head of IT.

Key Responsibilities

1. Database Administration: Monitor database health, server resources, and performance; perform routine maintenance, indexing, vacuuming, log management, and query optimization.
2. Backup and Recovery: Automate and monitor database backups, conduct regular restoration tests, maintain secure offsite backups, and implement disaster recovery plans.
3. Replication and High Availability: Configure and maintain database replication, clustering, synchronization, and failover across primary and secondary sites.
4. Security and Compliance: Manage database users, roles, permissions, authentication, encryption, security patches, and audit logs.
5. Performance Management: Identify and resolve slow queries, database locks, deadlocks, and connection issues.
6. Developer Support: Assist development teams with database design, SQL optimization, indexing, and Redis caching.
7. Documentation and Support: Maintain database documentation, monitor alerts, and provide on-call support during critical incidents.

Qualifications and experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• At least 3–5 years of practical experience managing production databases.
• Hands-on experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Microsoft SQL Server.
• Strong knowledge of database backup, recovery, replication, performance tuning, and security.
• Experience with Linux and Windows Server environments.
• Scripting skills in Bash, PowerShell, or Python.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.

Relevant certifications

• Certifications in Microsoft Azure Database Administration, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.
• Experience with AWS RDS, Azure SQL, or Google Cloud SQL.
• Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, and database monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix, and Percona PMM.
