ABOUT THE ROLE

Lakestone Investments is seeking an experienced Farm Operations Manager to lead day-to-day operations at our sugarcane farm in Masindi. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for production planning, field operations, labour management, and cost control, ensuring the farm runs efficiently across the planting, growing, and harvest cycle while delivering reliable yields and disciplined spend.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan and oversee all field operations across the sugarcane growing cycle — land preparation, planting, fertilizer and chemical application, irrigation, and harvest scheduling.
• Manage the farm’s permanent staff and seasonal/casual labour force, including hiring, scheduling, and performance oversight.
• Develop and manage the farm’s operating budget; monitor input costs, yields, and margins against plan.
• Maintain farm equipment, machinery, and infrastructure, coordinating repairs and preventive maintenance.
• Coordinate harvest logistics and delivery to millers/off-takers, ensuring quality and timing requirements are met.
• Maintain accurate production records (planting, inputs, yields, costs) and provide regular reporting to ownership.
• Ensure compliance with agricultural best practice, health and safety standards, and relevant regulations.
• Liaise with the farm supervisor and accounting team to ensure accurate, timely cost and production data.
• Identify opportunities to improve yield, reduce cost per tonne, and strengthen operational resilience.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agronomy, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years’ farm management experience, ideally with sugarcane or another large-scale commercial crop.
• Proven ability to manage sizeable field teams and seasonal labour in a rural setting.
• Strong budgeting and cost-control discipline; comfortable reporting production and financial data.
• Practical knowledge of agronomy, irrigation, and farm equipment maintenance.
• Willingness to be based on-site in Masindi and to work the hours the growing/harvest cycle demands.
• Honest, dependable, and able to operate with a high degree of autonomy.
