JOB SUMMARY: The Legal Officer provides legal counsel and ensures compliance with laws, regulations and best practices to support the Bureau’s operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Interpret and apply relevant laws, including financial regulations, data protection, and consumer credit laws.
- Ensure the bureau’s operations comply with Bank of Uganda guidelines and other statutory requirements.
- Advise management on emerging legal issues affecting credit reporting and financial services.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with financial institutions, vendors, and service providers.
- Provide legal advice to business units on compliance, regulatory, and operational matters.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from a recognized university.
- Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law. Development Centre (LDC) is a MUST.
- Enrolled Advocate of the High Court of Uganda.
- Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in a reputable public or private organization.
- Strong knowledge of finance and banking laws, data protection frameworks.
LEGAL COMPLIANCE
Interpret and apply laws and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
RISK MANAGEMENT
Identify, assess and mitigate legal and operational risks.
REGULATORY ADVISORY
Advise management on emerging legal issues affecting our operations.
CONTRACT MANAGEMENT
Draft, review and negotiate contracts with financial institutions and service providers.
