Management Trainee-Systems Administrator (NITA Uganda)

Job Purpose

To assist in the administration, monitoring and maintenance of Government collaboration software, data-centre infrastructure and related digital services implemented across different data centres.

Key Accountabilities

• Assist in the management of all hardware, applications, services, and operating systems in the Data Centre.
• Assist in developing dashboards and operational reports for system availability, resource utilization, incidents and service performance.
• Provide support in the design and acquisition of tools to proactively identify errors, ensuring efficient and effective use of resources.
• Participate in staging, testing, deployment, user acceptance testing and technical handover of applications and infrastructure services.
• Assist in developing scripts and lightweight automation tools to improve system monitoring, reporting, data processing and routine administrative tasks.
• Provide Tier 2/3 technical support for internal and external customers 24/7/365
• Support in the Development of application policies and procedures; monitoring compliance with these.
• Provide support to ensure that server operating systems, storage systems, and applications are up to date with the latest patches and antivirus updates.
• Provide support in the Implementation, integration, and support of Data Centre Applications, storage Systems, and other platforms e.g., Cloud and virtualization platforms.
• Perform any other duties, which may be assigned from time to time.

Minimum Requirements

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Telecommunications Engineering, Software Engineering, or another closely related field.
• Relevant professional certifications or technical training in IT service management, systems administration, networking, cloud, virtualization, cybersecurity or data-centre technologies such as Microsoft, Linux, VMware, Huawei, AWS or equivalent will be an added advantage.

Experience

• At least six months of hands-on working experience in an IT role.

Technical Competencies

• Foundational knowledge or practical exposure in one or more of the following areas: data-centre operations, Linux or Windows Server administration, networking, cloud computing, virtualization, storage, databases, infrastructure monitoring, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence or automation
• Knowledge of scripting or programming using Python, PowerShell, Bash, JavaScript or a comparable language will be an added advantage
• Exposure to containers and application deployment tools such as Docker will be an added advantage.
