Job Description

Main Purpose:

To manage the accounting function and produce monthly/interim/ annual financial reports for MTN Uganda, ensuring their compliance to IFRS, statutory and MTN Group’s requirements.

Job Title: Manager, General Ledger and Reporting

Reports to: Senior Manager Financial Operations

Main Job Functions:

  • Preparation of MTN Uganda’s monthly, interim and annual statutory financial reports in compliance with IFRS and MTN Uganda policies.
  • To ensure the group reporting is effectively and timely done monthly, and the team is complying to all reporting requirements and timelines
  • Overall responsibility for accuracy and completeness of all income statement transactions
  • Overall responsibility of monthly balance sheet reconciliation inline with the policy requirements, including follow up on resolution of issues identified to ensure the general ledger is kept clean.
  • Risk identification and mitigation and maintaining a robust control environment
  • Providing a pivotal role in the external and internal financial audits process of MTN Uganda.
  • Coaching and development of staff in financial reporting to ensure high performance and for succession planning purposes.
  • Overall responsibility for the general ledger and ensuring effective use of the group chart of accounts i.e. guiding the teams on the most appropriate GL accounts to use, and application of new ones where needed.
  • Providing oversight in the Oracle system period end module closure by the module leads in order to achieve compliance to the reporting timelines
  • Lead, supervise and motivate the reporting team

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (SMART)

  • Preparation of MTN Uganda’s monthly, statutory and annual financial reports within the prescribed timelines and quality KPIs.
  • Timely and effective monthly, interim, hard-close and year-end group reporting in compliance with all reporting requirements and timelines
  • Period close and completion of reconciliations in line with period close policy
  • Effective management of internal and external audits and resolution of any matters arising
  • Staff motivation and engagement

Education

  • Bachelors’ Degree preferably accounting as a Major or a relevant field and,
  • Qualified Accountant ACCA/ CPA

Work Experience 

  • At least 5 years of working in a telecom, FMCG or financial sector,
  • Accounting role in busy finance environment.
