Masaka School for the Deaf was established in 2005 to provide quality primary education, Ugandan Sign Language (USL), vocational skills, and independent living support to profoundly deaf and hearing-impaired children. Over the past 20 years, the school has supported and transformed the lives of more than 1,000 deaf learners from disadvantaged backgrounds across Uganda. As part of our continued growth and expansion, we are seeking to recruit ten (10) passionate, committed, and motivated Primary Teachers for Deaf Learners to join our dedicated team.

Position: Primary Teacher for Deaf Learners

Number of Positions: 10;

Location: Masaka, Uganda;

Employment Type: Full-Time

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach and support deaf and hearing-impaired primary learners using learner-centered methods
  • Deliver lessons using Ugandan Sign Language (USL) and appropriate visual teaching aids
  • Assess learner progress and provide individualized support where necessary
  • Promote inclusion, emotional wellbeing, life skills, and positive social development
  • Work closely with parents, guardians, therapists, and fellow staff to support holistic learner development
  • Participate in co-curricular and vocational development activities within the school

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Special Needs Education recognized by the Ministry of Education and Sports
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ teaching experience in Special Needs Education
  • Proficiency in Ugandan Sign Language (USL) is a must
  • Experience working with deaf or hearing-impaired children is highly desirable
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills
  • Good computer knowledge, especially MS Office applications
  • High levels of patience, empathy, professionalism, and commitment to disability inclusion
