Job Title: Project Support Officer – Geographical Indications

Salary Scale:     URSB 6

Reports to: Senior Registration Officer

No of Positions:    Two (02)

Closing Date: Thursday 6th August, 2026

Job Purpose

To receive GI applications, conduct examination and engage producer or farmers groups on Geographical Indications within the mandate of URSB.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

    • Receive, sort, and log Geographical Indication applications and related documents submitted to URSB.
    • Conduct preliminary examination of Geographical Indication applications for completeness and conformity with application requirements.
    • Prepare examination reports, objection letters, and correspondence to Geographical Indication applicants for review by the Supervisor.
    • Conduct searches in the Geographical Indications register and other IP registers.
    • Enter and update Geographical Indication applications and registration data accurately in the automated register.
    • Process and record renewals, transfers, licences, and assignments of GI rights.
    • File and maintain physical and electronic records of Geographical Indication applications, correspondence, and certificates.
    • Prepare Geographical Indication related documents for legal or administrative purposes.
    • Participate in stakeholder engagement activities, including attending meetings, workshops, and field visits with GI producer groups.
    • Prepare divisional reports and performance data.
    • Perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Person Specifications

Academic Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Business Administration, Agriculture, Agribusiness, Social Sciences, Management or any related field.
