Key Responsibilities

  • EMRS Development & CustomizationLead the customization, configuration, development and enhancement of an EMRS. Develop and maintain modules, applications, services and integrations. Design and implement clinical and administrative workflows in collaboration with healthcare users. Develop solutions for patient registration, appointments, encounters, clinical documentation, procedures, laboratory, pharmacy, billing, reporting and other required functions. Develop reusable and maintainable components rather than highly customized one-off solutions. Extend the EMRS platform while maintaining compatibility with the underlying architecture and upgrade path. Develop modern frontend functionality using Tailwind, JavaScript/TypeScript and React-based technologies where applicable.B.
  • Software Architecture & EngineeringParticipate in defining the technical architecture and development roadmap for the EMRS. Write clean, maintainable, secure and well-documented code. Apply software engineering best practices including: Version control Code review Unit and integration testing Continuous integration/deployment Secure coding Documentation Change management Review existing code and refactor poorly designed or technically risky components. Identify and resolve technical debt. Establish development standards and coding conventions for the internal software team. Support application performance tuning and scalability. C.
  • Healthcare Systems & InteroperabilityWork directly with clinical and administrative teams to understand healthcare workflows and translate them into software requirements. Develop and maintain integrations between the EMRS and other systems. Work with REST APIs and healthcare interoperability technologies. Develop solutions that support interoperability with laboratory, pharmacy, finance, medical devices and other healthcare systems. Have a strong understanding of healthcare information workflows, patient records, encounters, diagnoses, orders, results, prescriptions and clinical documentation. Support the implementation of healthcare interoperability standards such as FHIR where appropriate. Ensure that integrations preserve data integrity, security and traceability. D.
  • Database Development & AdministrationDesign, optimize and maintain application databases. Develop efficient SQL queries, views, stored procedures and database structures where appropriate. Monitor database performance, availability and capacity. Participate in database migration and upgrade activities. Ensure appropriate backup, recovery and disaster-recovery procedures. Maintain data integrity and support controlled data migration between systems.E.
  • AI-Assisted EngineeringThe candidate should be able to leverage and incorporate approved AI-assisted development tools for requirements analysis, feature implementation, schema generation, test creation, and debugging under strict human governance.F.
  • Cybersecurity & Data ProtectionBuild security into the EMRS development lifecycle. Implement appropriate authentication, authorization and role-based access controls. Protect confidential patient and organizational information. Ensure appropriate logging and audit trails. Identify and remediate application vulnerabilities. Apply secure coding practices and security testing. Support compliance with applicable healthcare data protection, privacy and information-security requirements. Participate in vulnerability management, incident response and security investigations. Ensure that development and production environments are appropriately separated. G.
  • DevOps, Deployment & InfrastructureEstablish reliable processes for application build, testing and deployment. Manage source-code repositories and branching strategies. Support CI/CD pipelines. Automate routine deployment and operational tasks using Shell/Python and related tools. Maintain development, testing, staging and production environments. Implement application monitoring, logging and alerting. Support release management and controlled production deployments. Develop rollback procedures for failed deployments.H.
  • Technical LeadershipProvide technical leadership to junior developers and IT personnel. Conduct code reviews and technical design reviews. Mentor staff in software engineering, EMRS development and systems administration. Help establish internal development standards and documentation. Coordinate with external developers, vendors and technology partners when necessary.Translate complex technical matters into clear information for management and non-technical stakeholders.

Additional Details

  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional software development experience. Demonstrable experience developing and supporting enterprise or business-critical applications. Proven experience working on healthcare, hospital, clinical, medical or health-management systems is strongly required. Experience with OpenMRS or another EMR/EHR platform is highly desirable.Experience working in a healthcare environment will be a significant advantage
