Share An Opportunity Uganda (SAO U) is a Christian child-centred non-government organization. It envisions a holistically developed child within the community. The organization seeks to recruit a dynamic and self-motivated individual for the position of Programme Officer, Education. The ideal candidate will be based in Kaberamaido and should have at least three years of relevant professional experience in a similar role.

Job Summary:

The Programme Officer, Education will be responsible for promoting children’s rights, education, child protection, and disability inclusion within schools and communities. The role is responsible for the effective implementation of education-related activities, supporting community structures, and contributing to programme planning, monitoring, evaluation, reporting, and learning, in alignment with SAO U’s standards and under the guidance of the Programme Area Coordinator

Key Responsibilities

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Programme Officer, Education

1 Programme Implementation and Coordination

i. Support the planning and implementation of education programme activities in alignment with SAO U’s strategies and donor requirements

2 Programme Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting

i. Collect, verify, and submit enrolment data each term from target ECD centres and primary schools to support programme tracking and evidence-based decision-making in line with project indicators

ii. Participate in routine monitoring of education activities, ensuring accurate data collection, analysis, verification, and documentation.

iii. Maintain updated field records, attendance, activity reports, and beneficiary tracking tools.

3 Community and Stakeholder Engagement

i. Mobilize and sensitize communities, parents, School Management Committees (SMCs), Centre Management Committees (CMCs), and other relevant community groups on education-related interventions.

ii. Build and maintain strong working relationships with teachers, head teachers, ECD caregivers, district education officials, and partner organizations.

4 Capacity Building

i. Build the capacity of child protection committees, School Management Committees, ECD caregivers, and children’s club patrons on relevant project areas and approaches to address issues affecting children

ii. In collaboration with the Programme Area Coordinator, develop and implement tailored mentorship plans for community structures in line with their roles and responsibilities.

5 Children’s Clubs Formation and Management

i. Lead the formation, strengthening, and capacity building of children’s clubs in target schools, ensuring the meaningful inclusion and participation of children with disabilities.

ii. Train teachers, club patrons, and child leaders in participatory approaches, life skills, child rights, and safeguarding.

6 Resource Management and Accountability

i. Ensure the responsible use of programme resources, including materials and activity funds, in accordance with SAO U’s financial and operational guidelines.

ii. Support community structures and schools in maintaining accountability records related to education project inputs.

7 Child Protection, Safeguarding, and Spiritual Nurture

i. Promote and uphold SAO U’s child protection and safeguarding standards in all school and community engagements.

ii. Report child protection concerns promptly through established reporting and referral pathways

Other requirements/ competencies:

a) Good knowledge and practical experience in applying a child rights-based approach to development

b) Good knowledge and experience of the child rights approach to development.

c) Demonstrated ability to develop quality work plans, budgets, and programme reports.

d) Good knowledge of computer applications.

e) Ability to collect, enter, manage, analyse, and interpret programme data.

f) Good knowledge of child protection systems, mechanisms, and referral pathways

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

a) An Honours Bachelor’s degree in Education, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Rural Development, or a related field.

b) Additional training or certification in Child Protection, Disability Inclusion, or Project Management is an added advantage.

c) A committed and spiritually mature born-again Christian who demonstrates alignment with SAO Uganda’s Christian values and mission

d) At least three years of relevant professional experience in community development, education programming, child protection, or related development work.

e) Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with community structures, schools, and local government authorities

f) Experience in data collection, monitoring and evaluation (M&E), data management, and programme documentation.

Key Requirements

  • At least three years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience working with schools, community structures, and local government.
  • Fluency in Kumam.
  • A valid motorcycle riding permit and ability to ride a motorcycle.
  • Strong computer, data management, reporting, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to child protection, safeguarding, inclusion, and Christian values.

The successful candidate should be spiritually mature, focused, and trustworthy, with a high level of integrity, accountability, and commitment to SAO U’s vision, mission, values, and aspirations.
