About the Opportunity

FC Africa is seeking a qualified and experienced consultant to provide technical assistance to four partner banks under the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Recovery and Resilience (MESMER) Programme.

The assignment aims to strengthen the banks’ capacity to sustainably expand their MSME finance portfolios through the development of innovative and inclusive financial products, improved credit risk management practices, enhanced MSME financing strategies and strengthened institutional capabilities.

The consultant will support the design and rollout of repeat-loan products for MESMER participants, develop tailored financial solutions for underserved MSMEs, and provide technical guidance, training and mentoring to partner financial institutions.

Key Areas of Responsibility

The selected consultant will be responsible for:

• Assessing MSME financing needs, market dynamics and institutional readiness.
• Developing repeat-loan packages and inclusive financial products for women, youth, persons with disabilities, internally displaced persons and other underserved groups.
• Supporting partner banks in refining and implementing MSME finance strategies.
• Providing technical guidance on digital lending and MSME credit risk management.
• Delivering training, mentoring and coaching to strengthen institutional capacity.
• Supporting product validation, pilot implementation and performance monitoring.
• Providing financial sector insights, technical recommendations and regular progress reports.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should demonstrate:

• A university degree or higher in business, economics, finance or a related field.
• At least eight years of relevant experience in the financial sector and MSME financing, particularly in providing technical assistance to banks and other financial institutions.
• Proven experience conducting institutional diagnostics and developing practical MSME finance solutions.
• Strong knowledge of Ethiopia’s financial sector and MSME financing landscape.
• Experience in training, mentoring and capacity-building for financial institutions.
• Excellent analytical, communication, reporting and stakeholder engagement skills.
