HR Business Partner – Ascendra

HR Business Partner – Ascendra

About the employer

A commercial group moving its people function from centralised administration to business partnering, a change it is about a year into and has found harder than expected: the two models want different skills, and not everybody in the function wants the second one.

The partner covers two commercial functions on resourcing, performance and employee relations, sitting with those functions rather than in an HR office and advising line managers who are used to being administered for.

Complex casework has external counsel available rather than being carried alone, which is the difference between an advisory seat and an exposed one. Hybrid with two office days, and professional body membership funded.

Job Description

  • Partner two function directors on workforce planning, resourcing and performance
  • Handle employee relations casework to conclusion: investigation, hearing, outcome and record
  • Support restructures and the consultation that goes with them
  • Run the performance cycle in both functions and moderate its outcomes
  • Coach line managers through their own conversations rather than holding the conversations for them
  • Analyse turnover, absence and engagement data for the two functions and act on it
  • Work with reward and talent acquisition on the cases that cross their areas

Ascendradoes not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, refugee status, marital status, or based on an individual’s status in any group or class protected by applicable law. Ascendra encourages applications from minorities, women, the disabled, refugees and all other qualified applicants.

The Successful Applicant

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Applied Psychology or Leadership and Governance
  • HR exposure, and readiness for employee relations casework
  • Willing to learn the Employment Act in practice rather than in outline
  • Able to write an investigation report that would hold up if it were read out
  • Confident with HR data and with Excel
  • Able to disagree with a director and keep the relationship

What is on offer

  • External counsel available for complex casework
  • Hybrid working with two office days
  • Funded membership of a professional body
  • Medical cover and NSSF
  • An advisory seat rather than an administrative one, from the start
