ASSISTANT LIBRARIANS- UNIVERSAL TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT UNIVERSITY (UTAMU)

The Assistant librarian shall support the University library in delivering high quality information services for teaching, learning and research at the university.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide reference and information services to students and staff.
  • Provide cataloguing, classification and data entry services using international standards e.g MARC 21.
  • Register library patrons and manage circulation desk.
  • Assist in information literacy training for library users.
  • Provide current awareness services and selective dissemination information services to the university community.
  • Provide print preservation services and weeding outdated materials
  • Enforce library rules and regulations
  • Participate in organizing academic support programs and library events.
  • Promote library services through awareness campaigns and related activities.
  • Ensure compliance with copyright and intellectual property laws.

Key Competencies

  • Knowledge of Library Management Systems like Koha and familiarity with digital repositories.
  • Knowledge of open access publishing.
  • Competence in ICT applications, electronic cataloguing and digital resource management.
  • Good communication and customer care skills.

Minimum Qualifications

  • He/She should hold a degree in Library and Information Science or a diploma in Library and Information Science from a recognised institution in Uganda.
