Job Title: Field Engineer — Tracer Operations

Reports to: Project Manager

Area: Field operations

Location: Kampala, rotational at well sites in Buliisa District

Travel Overseas for training required

Role overview

The Field Engineer leads and executes tracer deployments at the wellsite across inter-well and inflow applications. The role requires hands-on technical competence, strong communication and the ability to work independently under operational pressure, with strict adherence to safety and permit protocols. The programme covers six fields and twenty-nine well pads through to 2029.

Inter-well tracer applications

• Lead and execute inter-well tracer deployments at water injection wells.
• Select appropriate pipe and fitting sizes for each job.
• Operate pumps and valves safely and independently, following standard operating procedures.
• Use hand tools competently — spanners, thread tape, files and pipe cutters.
• Communicate effectively with operators to coordinate injection start and stop times.
• Participate in client meetings to discuss job risks and mitigation strategies.
• Generate detailed post-job reports, including tracer types, injection locations and timing.
• Understand and comply with work permit requirements and site-specific safety protocols.

Inflow tracer applications

• Lead inflow tracer deployments and understand the value they deliver to the client.
• Apply tracer adhesion methods to completion tools and pipe.
• Follow deployment procedures and document the process with photographs and reports.
• Maintain accurate application records detailing tracer placement.

General requirements

• Work independently with minimal supervision.
• Prioritize safety in all operations and environments.
• Operate and troubleshoot high- and low-pressure pumping systems.
• Understand and contribute to risk assessments; able to write and amend them as needed.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and email.
• Fluent in English, written and spoken.
• Maintain up-to-date vaccinations, training and medical certifications.
• Arrange travel and accommodation logistics for job assignments.

Essential requirements

• BSc or Higher Diploma in Petroleum, Chemical, Mechanical or Process Engineering, or an equivalent technical subject.
• Hands-on field or plant operations experience — oilfield services, drilling or production support, process plant, water treatment, industrial pumping or mechanical maintenance.
• Practical competence with pumps, valves, hoses, fittings and hand tools.
• Understanding of permit-to-work systems and site safety protocols.
• Valid Ugandan driving license.
• Willing to work rotationally at remote well sites and to travel overseas for training.

Added Advantage

• High-pressure pumping or pressure testing experience.
• Oilfield service company background.
• Formal HSE certification (NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent), H2S and first aid training.
• Experience preparing technical job reports for clients.
