Head of Compliance & Risk- Movit Uganda

Job Purpose:
To ensure adherence to laws, regulations and industry standards while driving strong governance, risk
management and sustainable growth across local and international markets.

• Group CEO
• Group Internal Audit
• EXCO
• All departments

External Stakeholder:
• Regulators.
• External auditors.
• Distributors.
• Suppliers.
• Legal advisors.

Functional Outputs/Activities per key performance area:

Financial Management

  • Provide oversight on financial risk exposures, including liquidity, credit, foreign exchange, and
    cost-related risks impacting the business.
  • Partner with Finance to ensure strong financial controls, safeguarding company assets and
    ensuring integrity of financial reporting.
  • Review and challenge financial plans, budgets, and investment decisions to ensure alignment with
    the organization’s risk appetite.
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of controls aligned to applicable financial reporting
    standards (e.g., IFRS).
  • Monitor and report on key financial risk indicators and escalate material exposures to Executive
    Management and the Board.

Risk Management

  • Develop, implement, and continuously enhance the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM)
    framework in line with leading practices (e.g., ISO 31000, COSO ERM).
  • Establish and maintain a risk appetite and tolerance framework, ensuring integration into business
    planning and decision-making.
  • Lead enterprise-wide risk identification, assessment, and mitigation processes across strategic, operational, financial, and reputational risks.
  • Maintain an up-to-date enterprise risk register and ensure accountability for risk ownership across
    functions.
  • Provide regular, insightful risk reporting to Executive Management and the Board, including
    emerging risks and scenario analysis.
  • Embed a risk-aware culture through training, communication, and integration into performance
    management. Investigate discrepancies in sales volumes, returns, and stock reconciliation.

Compliance

  • Develop and implement the organization-wide compliance strategy, policies, and frameworks.
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies across markets.
  • Oversee regulatory engagement, audits, and timely resolution of compliance findings.
  • Drive compliance training, awareness, and ethical conduct across the organization.
  • Maintain robust compliance reporting, governance structures, and documentation.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in law, Finance, Business, Risk, Engineering or related field.
  2. Master’s Degree (MBA / LLM / Risk / Compliance) -Preferred. Compliance/ Risk/Audit certification. ISO Internal Auditor.
  3. CPA/ ACCA/ CFE/ CISA / LLB/ CISA (added advantage)
  4. Any certification in ERP/ SAP/ Oracle/ Data Analytics/Odoo/Internal Controls.

Related Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum 10-15 years’ experience in FMCG/ Manufacturing/Pharma/Oil & Gas/Large corporate.
  • Minimum 5 years at a senior management level.
  • Experience in building compliance frameworks, managing audits, exports and regulatory
    compliance of Uganda.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions

  • Frequency of travel: Occasional travel is required for in country field visits; location may vary
    and may require overnight stays.
  • Light physical activities and efforts required working in an office environment.
