About Organisation:

Established in 2005, Masaka School for the Deaf provides quality primary education, Ugandan Sign Language, vocational skills and independent living support to profoundly deaf and hearing- impaired children. Over the past 20 years, the school has supported more than 1,000 learners from disadvantaged backgrounds across Uganda.

Job Summary:   As the school continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced, committed and inspirational educationist to provide professional leadership and overall management of the school.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:   The Headteacher will:

• Provide strong leadership to teaching and support staff and promote a positive culture of teaching and learning.
• Lead curriculum delivery, assessment and continuous improvement of learner outcomes.
• Develop, mentor and motivate teachers and staff.
• Ensure high standards of learner welfare, safeguarding, discipline and inclusion.
• Oversee the effective day-to-day management and administration of the school.
• Work closely with parents, guardians and other stakeholders.
• Support the continued development of vocational, life-skills and independent-living programmes.
• Contribute to the school’s strategic development and long-term sustainability.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• We are looking for a strong educationist and school leader with a proven record of effective leadership. Applicants should have:
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field recognised by the Ministry of Education and Sports.
• At least five (5) years’ relevant teaching experience, including experience in a leadership or management position.
• Strong understanding of teaching, learning, curriculum delivery and learner assessment.
• Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
• Good computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office.
• High levels of integrity, professionalism, patience and empathy.
• A genuine passion for education and improving the lives of children.
• Experience or training in Special Needs Education and/or proficiency in Ugandan Sign Language (USL) will be an advantage.
