Job Description

• Operates biomass and diesel industrial boilers to generate consistent steam supplies for production blanchers, jacketed cookers, and sanitation lines.
• Maintains the technical integrity, reliability, and safety of boiler plant and steam distribution networks through routine inspections, diagnostics, and repairs.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Operate biomass and diesel fired industrial boilers to safely supply steam for factory blanchers, jacketed cookers, and sanitation lines.
• Perform technical inspections, troubleshooting, adjustments, and repairs on steam systems using drawings, manuals, and fault indicators.
• Enforce lockout, tagout, and stored energy isolations across thermal, pressure, mechanical, and electrical sources before undertaking intrusive maintenance.
• Execute scheduled preventive maintenance checks, logging wear, vibration, temperature changes, and early warning signs of equipment failure.
• Verify guards, safety interlocks, alignment, calibration, and functional performance before releasing boilers and equipment back to production.
• Maintain complete, legible, and traceable operational shift logs, water test results, equipment settings, and maintenance histories.
• Coordinate boiler operations and scheduled shutdowns closely with dependent production teams to prevent unplanned downtime.
• Monitor combustion efficiency and utility consumption to minimize waste of fuel, water, treatment chemicals, and replacement components.

Education Qualifications & Experience

Education Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree, Higher Diploma, or Ordinary Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, Automation and Control, Instrumentation, Plant Maintenance, Automotive Engineering, Water Engineering, Chemical Technology, or a closely related field.
• National Diploma, National Certificate, Craft Certificate, trade certificate, UBTEB qualification, or recognized TVET apprenticeship in Mechanical Fitting, Welding and Fabrication, Plumbing, Plant Maintenance, or related technical trades.
• Certified Boiler Operator License or equivalent statutory operator credential.

Experience

• 2+ years operating high pressure industrial steam boilers.
