ABOUT THE ROLE
Lakestone Investments is looking for a Senior Accountant to take ownership of the accounting function across our property portfolio and farm operations. This is a hands-on, high-trust role for someone who wants full visibility into a multi-entity business from rental income and property expenses to farm production costs and who is comfortable being the single point of accuracy for the numbers that drive decisions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain complete and accurate books for property and farm entities, including day-to-day bookkeeping, reconciliations, and month-end close.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, including rent collection tracking, supplier payments, and farm input/output costing.
- Prepare monthly management accounts, cash flow statements, and variance reports for review.
- Maintain intercompany accounting records and ensure clean due-to/due-from tracking across related entities.
- Own the general ledger in Zoho Books (or equivalent), ensuring postings are timely, coded correctly, and audit-ready.
- Prepare and file statutory returns (VAT, PAYE, withholding tax, NSSF) and liaise with URA and external auditors.
- Support annual budgeting and forecasting for both property and farm segments.
- Implement and enforce internal financial controls, including reconciliation checklists and approval workflows.
- Supervise junior accounting/bookkeeping staff and coordinate with property managers and farm supervisors on cost reporting.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or ACCA (full or part-qualified) preferred.
- Minimum 5 years’ accounting experience, ideally spanning both real estate/property and agribusiness or a similarly complex multi-entity environment.
- Strong working knowledge of Zoho Books or comparable accounting software; advanced Excel skills.
- Solid understanding of Uganda tax and statutory compliance requirements.
- High attention to detail, discretion with sensitive financial information, and the ability to work independently.
- Clear, proactive communicator who can translate financial detail into decisions for non-finance stakeholders.
